As many expected, Microsoft kicked off their Microsoft Ignite conference today by announcing that SQL Server 2025 is now generally available with new features like built-in regex, AI capabilities, and more.
Amongst the new features and changes, I noticed SQL Server 2025 Standard Edition gets a nice lift. From the SQL Server blog post linked above:
Standard edition changes: Resource limits have increased to support up to 32 cores and 256 GB of memory. Resource governor is now available in Standard edition. The newly launched Standard Developer edition offers full feature parity with the Standard edition, enabling development and testing that mirrors production environment capabilities. Power BI Report Server entitlement is now included for all editions except the Express edition, adding value for customers.
I wrote about the new Standard Developer edition recently, and it’s nice to see these additional improvements for those not on Enterprise Edition.
